The Rubberwood is a kind of wood coming from rubber tree. The rubber tree is plant in Torrid Zone. There are three sources for the rubberwood that using for Chinese furniture, Thailand, Burma and Hainan Island of China. The best quality rubberwood should come from Thailand. It also called Parawood in Thailand.
One of rubberwood's most prized advantage is that it is an "environmentally friendly" wood. Because it makes use of rubber trees that have been cut down at the end of their latex-producing cycle. While the other woods that are cut down for the only purpose of producing furniture. The Rubberwood is used only after the tree completes its latex producing cycle and dies. Thus, what would once go to waste is now reused in an eco-friendly manner to construct new products.
And a rubber tree need few time than other trees to became a ready material. Overall, Rubberwood is the most ecologically "friendly" lumber used in today's furniture industry.
Rubberwood is used in high-end furniture as it is valued for its dense grain character. Rubberwood is one of the more durable lumbers used in the manufacturing of today's home furnishings. As a member of the maple family, rubberwood has a dense grain character that is easily controlled in the kiln drying process. Rubberwood has very little shrinkage making it one of the more stable construction materials available for furniture manufacturing.
Because this kind of wood does not have many knots, this allows for a smoother overall look and finish. The finish is neither high-gloss nor is it flat, rather, it is comparable to a finish between matte-satin.
Rubberwood is strong, flexible, and resistant to fungus, bacteria and mold. It is compatible with most industrial adhesives, easy to work with and has a beautiful grain suitable for high quality furniture.
